  • The 21 hectare site is located within the former steelworks at Ebbw Vale
    and has a history of over 200 years of industrial usage including ironstone and coal mining, iron and steel production, coke ovens, tinplating and railway idings and locomotive maintenance.

  • The regeneration strategy includes:

  • Large scale earthworks to create a generally uniform platform and the formation of a 1.5m to 2m thick constraint free zone below the finished surface.

  • The breaking out and removal of approximately 50,000m3 of reinforced concrete slabs and foundations.

  • Improvement of the bearing and settlement characteristics of the soils.

  • Improvement of the land form.

  • The stabilisation and capping of all recorded mine entries and the back filling of existing basements and other voids.

  • The bioremediation of 12,500m3 of hydrocarbon contaminated soils.

  • Extensive chemical testing and analysis.

  • The diversion and raising of existing deep surface water culverts and foul sewers.
