- The
21 hectare site is located within the former steelworks at Ebbw
Vale
and has a history of over 200 years of industrial usage including
ironstone and coal mining, iron and steel production, coke ovens,
tinplating and railway idings and locomotive maintenance.
- The
regeneration strategy includes:
- Large
scale earthworks to create a generally uniform platform and the
formation of a 1.5m to 2m thick constraint free zone below the
finished surface.

The breaking out and removal of approximately 50,000m3 of reinforced
concrete slabs and foundations.

Improvement of the bearing and settlement characteristics of the
soils.

Improvement of the land form.

The stabilisation and capping of all recorded mine entries and
the back filling of existing basements and other voids.

The bioremediation of 12,500m3 of hydrocarbon contaminated soils.

Extensive chemical testing and analysis.

The diversion and raising of existing deep surface water culverts
and foul sewers.
