- Reclamation
of the former Felindre Tinplate Works. The completed site contains
some 300 acres of land for industrial development.
-
The contract involved demolition of structures above and below
ground and the removal of waste and the reclamation of a former
land fill site.
- Site
investigation with the excavation and sampling of more than 800
trail pits and 30 boreholes.
-
Bio-remediation of the contaminated material and the stockpiling
of hydro–carbon contaminated material.
-
The contaminated material was excavated in a number of stages
and deposited in a temporary stockpile and then screened to accelerate
the bio-remediation process.
-
To achieve the design plateau levels, within the site some 260,000
tonnes of fill material was imported.
-
The material was sourced from the site of the Margam steelworks
and was completed over a two-month period at an average rate of
6,000 tonnes per day.
-
With the earthworks in progress, two attenuation ponds with HDPE
lining and a combined area of about 6000m2 were constructed and
landscaped and subsurface drainage installed.
