  • Walters UK Limited undertook four separate contracts for Caerphilly County Borough Council and the former Islwyn Borough Council to transform the site of the former colliery at Oakdale into a site ready for new industrial development.

  • In addition to the reclamation works and ground reprofiling, the works in this project included the construction of the new road infrastructure and sewer networks. The works comprising the four contracts were as follows: .

    Reclamation Phase involved:

  • Site clearance,
  • The demolition of concrete and masonry structures and crushing arising materials for incorporation in the works,
  • Bulk earthworks,
  • Mine shaft capping,
  • Piped and open channel drainage,
  • Adit stabilization,
  • Diversion of trunk sewer, Storm water drainage pipelines and outfalls.
  • Grouting of old mine working,
  • 4,400,000m3 bulk earthworks comprising excavation and filling to form new development plateaus,
  • Roadworks and Grouting of underground culverts.

    Infrastructure Phase involved:

  • The Construction of 28,000m2 of new road and roundabouts,
  • Diversion of the existing main road, Street lighting.
